About Me

Eric has a degree in Jazz Composition and Jazz Trombone Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory and a Masters degree in Jazz Studio Arranging from the University of North Texas. Eric has studied with Jay Ashby, Doug Thrower, Pete Churchill, Alan Baylock, and Rich DeRosa.

Eric grew up in a musical household as both of his parents were band directors. He started playing trombone in 5th grade and started writing not too long after in 8th grade. He aspires to continue arranging for Big Bands, Jazz Combos, Marching Bands, and Drum Corps. He has studied composition with Jay Ashby, Alan Baylock, Doug Thrower, and Rich DeRosa. He is currently the staff arranger for 6 high school marching bands across the United States. He has written music for the Royal Academy of Music Big Band, the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, and the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band.

As an arranger, he is proficient in the music notation and recording softwares Dorico and Logic and is learning Nuendo/Cubase. Before winning the trombone position at West Point, Eric also worked as a freelance trombonist in the greater Cleveland and Greater London areas. He is also in contact with the marching arts and has marched 4 years of Drum Corps at the Bluecoats drum and bugle corps. This led him to the opportunity to teach at Nordonia High School and Hebron High School as a marching band technician, as well as joining the Bluecoats on production staff in 2024 after aging out.

Eric has also taught jazz/trombone lessons at Hebron High School and enjoys spreading the love of jazz music to young students. He intends to continue teaching alongside his playing and writing careers.
