Solos: Trombone 1, Trumpet / Flugelhorn 2, Drumset
This song is meant to be a tribute to Snarky Puppy and their influence on Jazz Fusion in the 2010s. This work is mainly based on their song “Sleeper” off of their 2014 record “We Like It Here”. This tune is a lot of fun for any high school band with a strong lead trumpet player , and a rhythm section that can lay it down. It features a solo for trombone 1 and trumpet/ flugelhorn 2 as well as a drum solo and a 2 contrasting break down sections. The harmony is lush and dense and the funk rhythms can be tricky , especially paired with the funk horn section combos in the first breakdown. The second breakdown requires conducting, as the drum groove is out and the student must have good time and subdivide. These should all be exciting challenges for a young band to tackle though. This chart takes its own advice and gets right to the fun stuff!
